It’s wonderful to want things. It’s natural to ask for more. But I also hear many people saying ‘I’ll be happy when I have a new job, when I meet the man of my dreams, when I have more money, when this person apologizes…’
But happiness comes from within and we cannot wait for things to be perfect in order to be happy or we’ll always be waiting and miss the gift of being alive.
I believe being happy is a conscious choice every day. Not always an easy one but a choice nonetheless and I’ve found that one of the biggest blocks to happiness is the need to be RIGHT.
But let me ask you this? Would you rather be right or happy?
Here are some steps to take if you’re ready to let go of the need to be right and choose to be happy.
1) Take responsibility for your feelings. Nobody can make you feel anything. Life happens but we always have a choice about how we react. You may ask yourself ‘Why do I need to prove myself? Why do I need to be right? What is actually causing me upset? Is it what I think it is?
2) Make a conscious effort nurture your happiness and focus on things that bring you more peace (if you can’t find the joy yet). Write down at least one thing every day that you connects you to your inner sunshine and make a commitment to spend more time doing / being that. Even for 5 minutes.
3) Forgive the past. Forgive others. Forgive others. Forgive the past. Forgive yourself. Forgive others. You don’t have to say that what happened was OK. You are just choosing to no longer carry the heavy / toxic feelings within and around you anymore because your peace and happiness is more important than the story.
4) Be present. Today is a gift and the only moment that truly exists. All worry and anxiety is based on what did or what might happen. Now is now. If you bring you focus to each moment as much as possible, you’ll find it’s much easier to stay centred no matter what is going on around you.
